1. Fluconazole is one of the newer anti-fungalsš It’s a first-generation triazoleĀ antifungal medication. It differs from earlierĀ azole antifungalsĀ (such asĀ ketoconazole) in that its structure contains a triazole ring instead of anĀ imidazoleĀ ring.
2. Fluconazole was patented in 1981 and came into commercial use in 1988.[3]

Antifungal resistance can often be a problem š¶ Fungal resistance to drugs in the azoleĀ class tends to occur gradually over the course of prolonged drug therapy, resulting in clinical failure in immunocompromised patients (e.g., patients with advancedĀ HIVĀ receiving treatment forĀ thrushĀ or esophagealĀ CandidaĀ infection).[13]
4. Pregnant women should probably avoid this drug š³ One study showed that women using fluconazole during pregnancy have a 50% higher risk of spontaneous abortion.[26]
